y'all, partner and i had a wonderful surprise this weekend. they discovered that the belgian public tv was livestreaming the werchter festival! most of the acts! (i guess some bands didn't agree? rip a perfect circle, the xx). it was delightful! skipped quite a bit of stuff (wish we could have caught the prodigy), some of it we only watched partially (teddy swims, dogstar, moby, pixies!) there were pretty cool new-to-me bands (overpass, landmvrks), good guitar (cory wong, mogwai). nostalgic acts - kasabian, the lumineers, franz ferdinand!! and. and!! gorillaz - the funnest show, visually speaking (obviously). albarn was so goofy, shredding on a kid-sized guitar, playing a melodica, telling us about his lack of beard. they performed a lot off the newest album but also some songs i haven't listened to in ages. i could feel my brain re-wiring around the darkest period of my life, truly healing. AND. and. also - the cure!! how does smith still sound exactly the same??? i'm sad to say we didn't make it to the estimated finish coming up on 1 am but it was very dreamy and i'm glad i got to see them "live"-ish (let's be real - i'm never going to a festival, sounds like an overstimulating nightmare, this was the absolute best way to experience it all!) i'm so happy and energized, it was a spiritual experience.
