trying out joplin

i'm trying out joplin! i'm very fond of my basic text editor, i just keep it open at all times and dump random notes and ideas in there. they might become obsolete, or i might develop them into something to post on here (and remove from the file) so it's ever-changing and not really Eternally Growing. but even so, it was getting a bit troublesome to keep scrolling to reach whatever it is that i needed to reference at any given moment.

i used to use logseq for a while but it stopped working on nixos at one point :( not that i used it to its full potential, a lot of empty daily notes...

anyway, i like the basic layout in joplin and i'm familiar with it (i was looking for a bear alternative as i only have that on ipad and it's not the most Comfortable device to write on. plus it runs out of battery so damn fast, would not be practical as a main device). i like all the ways you can categorize and search notes, and even list them all in one big jumble, regardless of categorization.

i do kind of miss being able to scroll through the /content/ of the notes all together, the full thing. connections! juxtapositions! inspirations! and tbh - constant reminders! but maybe it's not a big enough loss to put me off of it? i'll have to implement some sort of regular scanning of each notebook...

oh, and all this in preparation for next year. i'm going to try and see if i can do most of my journaling digitally, seeing as i already used that txt file for scraps very consistently. recently my main physical notebook has been bare of all its usual entries. only the planning remains, no more long-form journal entries, tarot readings, sketches, quotes, brain-dumps etc. it's the inks, i tell you. as soon as i switch back to black i might encounter a notebook renaissance, i'll want to write all the things. (or maybe it's the planning, ensuring the notebook is open only on that one relevant page...) but also i like the idea of writing digitally, then i can easily share to email, blog, social media.

i think i'll try to move planning to just loose sheets of paper. i can make a template to print out, as-needed. and then i'll keep the paper journal mostly for creative ideas. those definitely need to be Visible Together.

now i only have to find anywhere where the stalogy a6 isn't sold out... (midori is too yellow, leuchtturm too thick - at least the one with fountain friendly paper, moleskine is decidedly not fountian pen friendly enough. if only there was a brand that made fountain pen friendly and Actually White paper...)
