mannde ji mala, a song by maati baani. it's been with me over the last few weeks. i don't know, something about devotional music gets me. if you subscribe to the "god is all is-ness" paradigm - god godding god - it feels especially bittersweet. the music calling to the beloved, to itself, knowingly or not - still acknowledges the separation of the one calling and the one being called to. previously i've only ever had that feeling when listening to kirtans...
i also like how ecumenical it is, even the translation rendering mala as rosary, tying in another tradition. love!
There's a rosary inside us! Whose beads turn eternally, Chanting Your name, nothing but Your name! The Maulana (preacher) is inside us! Within us is the Mosque, Within us is the Maulana Why then go to Mecca? I decorate the bed, I spread flowers, Waiting eagerly for You, calling “Beloved, Beloved.” The rosary in my body is chanting Your name, only Your name Within us is the Holy Ganges Within us is Yamuna, Why then walk the road to Kashi ? Within us are the bellows, Within us is the fire, Inside sits the blacksmith, shaping this vessel! The rosary in my body is chanting Your name, only Your name Listen O Seeker, Says Kabir Whoever truly searches will find the Truth right here! There's a rosary inside us! Whose beads turn eternally, Chanting Your name, nothing but Your name!
