moon things, part 1

08/09/25

(hi, i'm vaguely back!) i know i mentioned my moon planning previously but i'm not sure if i ever expanded on it. basically i was missing a monthly rhythm and just "observing" the moon, my feelings etc wasn't really doing much as a replacement. it was a bit too abstract/detached from the physicality of living. but then i remembered people actually do things in accordance with moon phases and tried to give that a go instead. i've been doing it since last year and it's been very helpful! i feel like i do more of everything by following the different stages of the lunar month and placing intentional focus on the different activities.

whenever i set up a new month in my notebook, i draw a vertical line down the middle of the page and label it with the days of the month - number and name. i divide the column on the right into regular weeks, placing horizontal lines after each sunday. that column gets filled with appointments, deadlines, birthdays etc. - things that happen in their own time.

on the left i mark the days of the different moon phases, then draw horizontal lines marking an arbitrary boundary between them. if the new moon falls on the 21st, that will be the central day of its "week", extending three-four days on either side. now my calendar has a column for "natural" weeks on the left, and "society" weeks on the right.

each moon phase has its own types of activities that get brainstormed in the left column:

there's room for everything! a time and place for all sorts of things that might need to get done. now i'm also beginning to consider planning specific magical activities in the moon column as well... especially after - the lunar eclipse! (end of part 1).
