tarot pips

here's how i personally understand and use the numerology of the tarot pips, based on many of the marseille and cartomancy resources in my tarot links section. while reading pips i do mostly a mix between visuals and numerology. the numerology gives me the parts at play, the pictures shape the progress of the overall story via how the geometry changes from card to card, how these patterns affect the individual energies.

ace - idea, longing, opportunity, potential. could be just what you wanted, could be disruptive, as any new thing that tries to find a place in your life. it's completely unmanifest, a spark.

two - preparation, inward, apparent stillness while things happen under the surface, gestation, gathering. fanning the flame, feeling things out.

three - spontaneous action and creation, emitting, giving, unrefined, first steps and results. a burst of energy or life. could be exciting, could be awkward. surprise, unpredictable.

four - stability, routine, strength, boredom. established and normal. dependable, existing, self-sustaining. also: a place/structure related to the suit.

five - action prompted by external factors. disruptions, obstacles, creative solutions, problem-solving, learning through doing. you're put to the test, trial by fire. react or respond.

six - harmonizing, pleasure, beauty, satisfaction, self confidence after trials. relief, achievement. like the 4 but now you know you have what it takes, self trust earned through experience.

seven - internally motivated actions, introspection, making decisions. now that you know you have what it takes, you learn what it is you actually want, what direction you want to pursue.

eight - the suit at its fullest and strongest, for better or worse. might be fulfilled perfection, might be overwhelming, might be underwhelming. also the "aggregation" of the suit brings to mind communities and sharing. if sevens were your own ideas, eights are sharing them and discussing with others.

nine - action through shedding and withdrawal, narrowing things down, experience, authority, specialization, delegating. sharing wisdom. refined authenticity. becoming more and more yourself.

ten - the end of the suit, all energy spent, completion. while numerologically i see it as the end and transition, it's hard to deny that visually tens just look the fullest. it brings in a second meaning for me - community again but on a larger scale, longer timeline than the eights. looking at its broader patterns. not just this one path that you've taken, but all the paths and cycles of this suit in a broader context.
