you know what, i never really imagined an audience for my writing. i assumed it's small enough and out of the way that probably nobody's going to read it! the tone of my writing is very conversational, i think subconsciously i'm addressing it to the one friend i know reads it, who encouraged me to start it? well, if not to them directly then to that "type" of relation. "we're well meaning pals here" and i assume i can just share my thoughts, the same way i'd like them to share theirs.
i've only started getting a little self-conscious about "what am i even doing on here??" once i started browsing gemspace and seeing like... people do quite curated little websites. they're either sharing their interesting projects - their development or the final product for others to use, or they write about Subjects. not just random thoughts but like you said you were trying to do - well articulated almost... articles? insightful and inviting conversation.
i don't do any of that! in fact, because i don't think in words, any time i start writing something it becomes a process for myself to know my own mind. and after i muddle my way through some winding ideas and tangents i just post it with minimal editing. it's **my** log after all, to do with as i please.
i don't know if that's very community-oriented but on the other hand i've gotten a few emails over the years from people saying my little place has inspired them to start their own little sites/logs. and of course our own interactions are a great result. i think the evergreen, cliched advice of "just be yourself" prevails? the output might not have the mass-appeal AI strives for but the right people will appreciate it all the more for its authenticity. even if it's different from what others are doing.
